Troy has the flavor of an old port city with plentiful riverfront warehouses dominating it's skyline. Once a major steel producer, it has been given a new life with a multitude of locally-owned shops, restaurants, co-working spaces for high-tech startups, many launched by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's students and grads. Each month, the tech community meets at the Startup Tech Valley event, hosted in the iconic split-level Revolutionary Hall, now home to Brown's Brewing Company.
On weekends, thousands throng to River Street for the Waterfront Farmers Market. Major cultural venues include RPI's Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) and Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.
